"We are not photogenic!"

Said 90% of my clients!

Let's be honest for a sec though, are you really "not photogenic" or have you just never been taught your angels and how to pose in a way that best suits you? Some people just "got it" but most of us need guidance (myself included during our yearly family photos). It's not everyday you pose in front of a professional camera so emotions are high as it is, add not knowing what to do with your arms, worried about a double chin and that one strand of hair that will not stay put, it can be stressful! But it doesn't have to be!

So..hear me out...

Your confidence during a session starts long before the camera is near. It starts with your outfit! If you aren't comfortable in what you are wearing, it can show in your pictures. It will also effect how you feel about the pictures when you receive your gallery. Being comfortable and confident in what you are wearing is arguably the thing that matters the most when it comes to your session.

Now, don't hear what I'm not saying. This IS the time for you to wear that dress you've been dying to wear or those shoes that have been waiting for their moment! Here is what I mean...

  • If you are someone who doesn't love their arms, wearing a sleeveless dress is not the best move for you.
  • If you are someone insecure about their midsection (talking to myself here), it is not a good idea to wear a fitted top and tight jeans

When it comes to styling your outfits, take note of what you want to minimize during our session and go from there.

"But what do I do with my hands?!"

I know we are in a photo centric world these days, but it is more common than you think to not know how to pose when getting your picture taken. That's where I come in! I will guide you every step of the way! From fixing your hair, straightening your shoulders and yes, even where to put your hands! I love to work and customize each pose to best suit my clients. Height differences, preferences, outfits etc. all play a role in who a certain pose will look, so each couple gets a tailored experience that best suits them!

Also, keeping an open mind about poses will play a big role in your photos! I will never make you do something you are uncomfortable with, but some poses might feel silly but if you trust me, they can be some of your favorite photos. They usually make for the most genuine laughs and snuggly moments that end up being my favs!

At the end of the day...

It's okay to feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. Most of us are not professional stylists or models so the feeling is a lot more common than you think it is! If you are feeling unsure about an outfit, reach out! It is always, always, okay to ask for my input on an outfit choice! I love helping my clients style something that is uniquely them, comfortable and will photograph well! I also love looking at inspiration photos with you! It helps us both have realistic expectations for our session!

At the end of the day..having fun and making the most out of you session will be the best thing you can do! Be extra if you want to be extra, be as wild and fun or as intentional and romantic as you want to be!
